Re: Duratech 1957 S147RD

Just picked up a 1957 engine to go with this 1957 boat. Got a 1957 Johnson RDE-19 35HP "Big Twin" that I got for $250 bucks. Looks complete but has one male connector for electrical connections. Anybody know about where you can get the external wiring harness with female end to connect to the engine? Pics at http://talleyman.spaces.live.com

Hey Tallyman

Looks like a great old boat and should be a fun restore. As for the wireing harness usually came with the era specific controls. Most dash wireing (besides Ignition) If I remember correctly was custon at the various factories to add the electrical goodies.

Go into the Evinrude reapir forum here on I-Boats and you will surely get the info you need.

Keep us up to date ont he restore with info and pics

Re: Duratech 1957 S147RD

Thanks. I did get on ebay the old Johnson cable that has the unique connector that attaches to the recepticle on the side of the cowling. I think one of the wires in the cable is bad but I can work with it I think - the connector part is what is important. It also came with the junction box plus parts inside, so it is a big step forward. I really need to finally find a trailer for this boat before I can move forward on it much more.

Hello All,
I think you will find a lot of folks into the Duratechs are also into old outboards (and anything with a motor - like me ;-)

I like these sites for Outboard parts and advice:-
http://www.vintageoutboard.com/
http://www.oldmercs.com/models.html (Great pics and info as well as parts)

and of course, the king of all questions Outboard
http://www.aomci.org/

Also do not overlook NAPA - I find they have a ton of parts for old motors, I get coils and points, gaskets and impellers many times from them. Sometimes they are on the shelf !!

Hope this helps...
