Duoprop burn?

I just had my props rebuilt on my 5.7GS VP Duoprop. (22'SeaSport) WOT is about 4800 RPM and 48 mph for the boat.

I noticed some cavitation type burns on the rear prop, on the blades near the hub.

I've heard this is common. What's the fix?

Thanks,

ML

Re: Duoprop burn?

It's usually caused by trimming the drive a little too high.
SS props also works better on DP's and doesn't seem to suffer from the cavitation burn as easy as the Alum props.

Don,

How can I determine how high I should trim the drive to avoid this problem?

Thanks,

ML

Re: Duoprop burn?

its common even on the big boats that never trim up at all when running. usually it occurs on the aft prop on the hub between the blades. no cure that I have found other than going stainless.
