Guys
For the past month I've been tracking down a no start condition on my Mercruiser 5.0 mpi / 5.7. Serial is 0M656136. The original block was replaced with a 5.7 in 2018. It ran fine last year but would not start right out of the shute this year. I could not get fuel pressure to build. I check the anti siphon, re-did all the hose connections, changed the filters. Still no pressure. Today i pulled the vacuum line for the fuel pump where it tee`s at the intake manifold and found gas. I then isolated the coolfuel regulator from the rail regulator and used some hose to a foil pan. I did a key on sequence to run the pump. The vacuum line for the coolfuel regulator was dry, the dummy regulator gushed fuel from the vacuum line connector. My understanding is that the dummy is used as a dampner only and some say it does nothing. Regardless this almost nothing part is very expensive, $380 on some sites. Part# 885174. Anyone else run into this and find a good solution? Is this one just a GM regulator?
