Hi
I've recently taken ownership of an immaculate Ducati 9.9hp outboard, (green and white). Having tried to get info on this beauty here in the UK, and from the Ducati museum in Bologna, Italy, I have drawn a blank. I saw a while ago mention of a 10hp Ducati on an american web page. It said one of only two in the USA. Does anyone know how rare these are and what the parts situation is. Apart from a non standard remote petrol tank fitting, mine is OK, but I might ned some for the future.

Welcome to iboats. :)

Have a look here...
Ducati Outboard Parts

If you e-mail them, maybe they can be of more help. They're at www dot ducati dot com

Until I read your question, I never heard of such a thing. I've never seen any aftermarket parts offered. If you ever are guided to any pictures, please let me know. I have a MAC-10 outboard made in Italy. I don't know by who (no hood). It's a Wankel.

That's the beast. I never have had it running. It's missing the prop, fuel pump, and hood. It also locked-up while sitting, but it's dry where it's stored and it'll probably loosen up with minimal effort. I've heard that they're very loud and rather gutless. The fuel pump I can get around. It's the prop that's really holding me up. I'm hoping the Ducati reference may lead to one. Do Paul's pictures look anything like yours, Bruce?

Amazing and I thougyt you only got wankel engines in bikes and cars! Those MAC's do look beasts, but no not at all like my 1973 Duke. When I work out how to put a pic on I will post one. My Duke is now fired up and works well. It really sounds like a thoroughbred and the build quality is very impressive, stainless steel everywhere! The throttle grip also changes gear so one smooth operation. Interestingly, a friendly mechanic of mine sugests alot of the parts are mercury such as the prop, flywheel etc. Howevr, all of the external stuf like the leg, tray and lid are all Ducati. Thanks all for the info. Is it true there are only two in the USA?

Re: Ducati outboards

Don't want to hijack your thread, Brucey, but the comments about the Wankels brought back memories.

Back around 1970 I was visiting the OMC facility in Waukegan (or was it a nearby city?) and was treated to a ride in a boat powered by an experimental Wankel powered Johnson 35HP outboard.

VERY loud, with a torque curve like an over-tuned 2 stroke (nothing, then wow!, then nothing again). I think it was a development of a snomobile engine.

After that I never heard or saw anything about that one. Must have been as bad as I thought it was. :)

Re: Ducati outboards

Ducati tried to make inroads with dirt bikes back in the early 70's but I don't think they did all that well. I haven't seen one in several years.

Re: Ducati outboards

Thanks for the info on ducati outboards. I have tried both suggestions to no avail. The main Ducati site told me they knew they produced them but did not know when or how many! They don't even have one in their museum! All I was after was some general info on them. I know they also produced a 20hp model (not as attractive as the 10hp) I am surprised that so little is known about as recent an engine as this rom such a famous company. For instance what name/no is the green paint used on the leg? no one seems to know.
