do you have 2 batteries on board your nineteen?
i assume the best and only place to put it would be under the aft starboard seat. any other possibilities? where did you put your batt. selector at too?
any comments or pics on how it worked out for you...
i'm obviously considering adding a 2nd batt.

Sams club has a 1000 amp batterry for about $80 bucks that I have been using in the dually. It should be more than enough for your 19 without having to add the additional circuitry.

Re: dual batt. ? for a nineteen

i've thought of that db, or kinda so. i was thinking a jump pack. might still go that route. the jump pack would be usefull in my line of work too so i could kill to birds with one stone.

i just wondered how it had worked out for others putting in the spare batt. kinda heavy to have two both on the starboard side.

guess my goal is to not have to worry if i play the stereo to long in one sitting or leave the vhf on and listen to the stereo for too long. you get the idea. that and i end up being on the lake many times mostly by myself, or by myself and i do the missouri river which can be most desolet at times too... some kinda spare batt. source would be a real winner for me...

Use one of those battery savers that shuts it all down if the voltage drops below 10.5(?)

Re: dual batt. ? for a nineteen

i dunno db???? interesting suggestion, but i think i'd rather have the capability to get myself going again... like i said, the missouri river is deadsville sometimes. sure would be a bummer to not have an engine with the speed of the current that's running on that river... you could find yourself in a world of hurt pretty fast i think...

had me a thought. guess i could put my spare batt. in loose for a test run to see if the weight is too much.

think i'm leaning towards the jump pack for a starter. no pun inteneded.... i certainly like the idea of no mods to the boat with that idea too.

sure do appreciate your suggestion db... thanks...

been running dual batteries in my fathers 19 for as long as i can remember....strictly a fishing boat but hes had me add alot of extra electronics and weight....until last week the boat was waterlogged too....but still handled very well!!!

oh and i mounted the switch inside the gunwhale just in front of the seat....shorter the cables the better!

Re: dual batt. ? for a nineteen

so did ya have the two batt. side by side on the aft starboard side?

i've got a recess in my hull liner for one batt. right next to the engine. it kinda sits half way under the seat and half way into the engine compartment.

if both batt. are in the same place. did you just mount a batt. box under the seat for the second one? any issues with listing? when static in the water or at speed?

looking at the pic of your '70 nineteen in your other thread. it looks like your back seats have a fiberglass pedestal to rest the cushions on. my '75 has a piece of aluminum frame for the inside rail for the cushion to rest on. and then just a separate piece of fiberglass to cover the ft. area between the inside of the boat and the aluminum frame on the inside of the boat to give it a finished look.

one thing i've discovered about these nineteens is that they seem to have been slowly modified over the years. just slightly modified. an easy to see mod is the bow light is different on you 70 vs. my 75.

the rear seat bases are actually molded into the deck, sides, and rear sun deck*. with a piece of bent tubing glasses for reinforcement..
the second battery is just strapped in right under the seat cushion between original battery and seat base....

this nineteen is my fathers boat but i used it alot before i had my own and it handles remarklebly? well, no listing adrift or under power... goes perfectly straight......but that may be the waterlogged foam keeping it balanced?? who knows :/

keep in mind this thing carries 2 batteries, 18 gallons on fuel,4 downriggers, atleast 6- 10 pounds balls, planner boards, tackle, about one hundred pounds of anchors, usually 2 coolers one for fish and the other for food and drinks.. sometimes up too maybe 200 pounds of salmon caught with atleast 3 sometimes 4 people aboard....mostly gets wet in lake ontario running 10 miles plus off shore at times....we have seen atleast 13 -15 foot swells in this nineteen, not by choice :/ ,with absolutely no problems! overloaded? no doubt! but been fishing in this boat like this for close to atleast 20 years..

outstanding !!!!!!

more proof these nineteens really are one sweet (more than seaworthy) ship....
apparently, i just think i've been torturing on my nineteen... you've really put her though the paces... guess i'll have to test mine out better.. :D

so Scott, when ya gonna start making them again? ;);) ya still got the mold?

thanks for the info on the batteries. sounds like it's more than a feasible idea to me.... next for me is to come up with the bread to do the deed..

Re: dual batt. ? for a nineteen

just keep in mind if you add the battery switch make sure you get a (make before break) connection! otherwise you will chance frying the alternator or regulator if you switch between batteries while it running.....
its a good idea to use 2 identical batteries also, that way if you switch them to both while running your not overcharging or undercharging either of them.
i actually run 2 batteries with a perko switch...only because its cheaper and easier to hook up than a isolator in my glass starcraft.. but i have one battery connected to all the electronics, electric riggers, fish finder,cd player to attract the fish of course wwith some melow tunes:) and the uhf..
the other batt is for engine and trim, etc.... that way if i happen to still fish for too long with the sounder and radio and lights and everything else i still have a good battery to start it.. then i just switch it to the dead battery and run for a while letting it charge and good to go......

Re: dual batt. ? for a nineteen

everything your saying is what my intentions would be as for the install. seems like it'd be the easiest (cheapest) route to take. i'm interested in the idea for all the same reason you expressed too. except, i don't have sonar or riggers...
i like to go hang at the lake at night. get my stereo, vhf, and the lights on and i start to worry a little after some time elapses. cure for it right now is just start it up every now and then. always goes right into charging too. i'd like to cure that.

Re: dual batt. ? for a nineteen

well, in lieu of a second batt. i went and got a jump pack.
at least there'll be hope if i run my acc. to long...

jump pack cures not having to drill extra holes in the boat too. that i like...

Re: dual batt. ? for a nineteen

I think this handy little gadget will fit your needs nicely! ;)
http://www.ezacdc.com/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=106

Run your radio, fish-finder, trolling, etc off of a deep-cycle "house" battery & even if you run it real low it doesn't affect the "starter" batt. When you crank the engine the starter batt gets the full juice & if/when it's charged the circuit automatically switches the charge to the depleted house batt & charges it. I'm getting one for my SeaRay 'cause my stereo amp sucks the juice quickly. Being stranded is not fun.

Hope this helps.

Hello!

This is what my switch looks like, I don't know if it's stock. The batteries sit in plastic boxes under the seat. I haven't had this boat on the water, I need to clean her up. Thought you might like to see it.

Here is what mine looks like. I haven't noticed a list due to the weight.
