Hello

Found this board doing a google search.. Looks to be a ton of great info with some really smart helpful folks..

What We have is a 1995 suzuki DT25c . We where out on the bay in forward gear and the boat was running fine.. When we went to put it in neutral we heard a pop and it just stayed in forward. We didnt want to risk not making it back to the ramp so we left her in forward and putted back to the ramp..

Once we had the top cover off we noticed a linkage clip had popped off the shifter.. I popped it back on thinking we had fixed the problem but that was only to lock the cable starter out when the motor is not in neutral.

So we still have our problem. From the looks on the shift shaft it looks fine but we have yet to take anything apart. I would like to get a repair manual or some professional advice before ripping into the motor.

I found on another thread that there may be something under the carbs that may be broken.

Does anybody have any suggestions or advise before I decide if I want to take this somewhere or take it apart.. I have a ton of experience working on automotive engines but little in marine..

Any Advise would be super appreciated..

Thanks a ton
Robert

From a mechanical/legal standpoint, considering the ramifications of lawsuits if you tried to cure the problem with little or no knowledge, or someone tried to help you over the forum, I'd strongly suggest taking it to a Suzuki dealer for the proper diagnosis and repair.

Who is going to sue me? Suzuki for opening up there outboard without proper knowledge or experience? LOL.

If I was an idiot I would of allready torn into the lower unit.. I guess it must make me an idiot to do a little bit of research on the internet..

Thanks for your help... Now where is that uregister button??

hahahaha, don't unregister yet, I'm not sure what GRID is on about .... he might be on the wrong forum ...... anyway, you should check the shift linkage at the back of the lower unit .... if you go to www.brownspoint.com you can buy a repair manual and also kind of part out your motor on their diagrams .... make sure the black clutch rod arm inside the cowling is not cracked, making the clutch leaver slip ......

Re: Dt25c Shifter Problem?

thanks for your responce.. Opon further inspection in the day light I found underneath the carb there is a plastic clutch arm with a hole in it with nothing popped in... Well the missing thing was the clutch rod.. We where able to get it popped back in without removing the carbs.. We where able to shift the gears back and forth with no issues.. Later in the day we where re testing it and the rod had popped back out again... Looking closely at the clutch arm the plastic looks to be a little worn inside the hole.. I am guessing that is why the rod popped out in the first place and continues to pop out.. So I guess the carbs need to come off to replace that arm.. Any suggestions on the best / safest way to remove those.. Going to order one of those books from brownspoint.. thanks for that link..

Re: Dt25c Shifter Problem?

to my opinion it would be easier to remove the powerhead to replace the arm .... but not the best option .... take off whatever you can to be able to have enough space to work in .... removing the carbs is easy, just keep them together .... good luck

if the motor still has oil res on the port side of motor take it off and you can get to the plastic holder from there. you will need to replace the old holder with new one. Pretty simple task. it is best to drop lower unit to be able to play with the shift linkage.pulling the carbs would ease in the job but no need to pull power head but if you do i can give you some advice on some hop ups for this motor. great motor.ive worked on them since thjey came out with the 1988 3o hp 3 cyl. then in 89 they came with the 25.which has major hp hiddin
