DT115 Won't Run For More Than A Minute...or so

I purchased a boat with a 2000 DT115 (2 stroke) last year. It ran great last year and this year...until the other day when I started the engine to move to "bigger fish" and it died after running for just few seconds...and then it wouldn't restart at all.

I changed the fuel/water separator filter (it looked old), and made sure the fuel strainer on the port side of engine was clean. I did just refill the fuel tank before this started to happen...wondering if I got bad gas...

It will now only start when it has sat for a while like overnight...and then it only runs for a minute or so before dying...and won't restart. While it is running it sounds normal -- I can rev it up and it idles ok too...but then it just dies after running for a minute or so...

I dismantled the fuel pump and the diaphragms look fine...

...any suggestions on where to start with this issue are greatly appreciated...

Sounds like you could have sucked up some crud in the fuel system .... also make sure you have enough ventilation at the tank ....

Thanks deejaycee...I am going to try isolating the problem by running the motor (if it will start) from an aux fuel tank of fresh gas...at least this might eliminate fuel as the problem if it still does not run properly...or cuts off after a minute or so...

...any other advice is appreciated...

before using the fresh tank, either use different fuel lines or blow out the old ones so you dont use the gas in the lines that is old.

...well it ended up being gunk and water in the fuel...when I isolated the motor from the onboard fuel with an auxillary fuel tank it ran great...

...so I syphoned the bad fuel from the tank...ran a small amount of fresh fuel through the fuel lines...dumped the fuel water separator filter several times and I think I'm good to go...

...just hope my truck doesn't mind a little water in its gas...
