I just bought a boat with a DT-85 Suzuki on it. It's been sitting 4-5 years, so I need to do a bit of maintenance to bring it back. My plans call for some carb and fuel pump work, as well as the water pump.
I bought a Clymer manual, but it seems like they forgot to provide information about how to drop the lower. The problem that I'm having is where to disconnect the shift shaft. The pictures (and instructions) in the Clymer don't appear to relate to my 1987 motor. It says to remove a cover, which in the picture looks to be right above the cavitation plate. There's no such cover on mine. All I have is a little black plug up in the lower engine housing. This gives access to a nut which holds the shift linkage arm on. Beyond that, I can't see what to do.
Does anyone know how to disconnect this?? I would really like to get this running and this is holding me up. Thanks.
