depends on what you mean by drystack. comprenday?
its kinda like a rebuild, to some its everything to others its a paintjob.
if your talking about the mercruiser drystack style manifolds and risers they work ok, if your talking about a completly dry exhaust system check the USCG and local regulations on dry exhaust in a marine application.
but with all the info you posted we cant say much else.

Ya Bud...

In this forum, we do not need to know what type boat you have, we need to know the following to answer your questions with any kind of specific information.

1. Engine year, make, type, model, and serial number if possible.

2. Type and model of outdrive, Merc, Volvo, OMC, etc.

3. EXACTLY what it's doing wrong, worded correctly so we can figure out the question.

4. PATIENCE to do the testing procedures given.

5. State your problem in the name of the topic. Don't clutter up your request for help with HELP!!! or PLEASE!!!. We know you want help. Tell us what kind of help you need.

6. Don't capitalize except where it is normal.

7. All posts related to your request should be posted as replies to that topic, not on a new topic.

8. Don't add a new question to someone else's topic. If you have a new question, make a new topic.

9. A return post to keep everyone updated.

I agree completely, dry stack is one thing, no water at all in a dry stack. Then there is the Mercruiser DRY JOINT system, which is a completely different setup and is a water cooled system.

Next question would be if you boat in salt or fresh water.

PS:
Since most people (me included) don't normally read the title of a thread as part of the body of the topic. It's best to supply all your info and question in the text of your post, and don't rely on the title as being read into the post.

I'll try my best. Dry joint is what I am refering to. Yes it is a salt water boat, that sits in it 6 months a year, no flushing. Thinking I will get more time with this style, when I replace them, will these be a better choice for me? 2000 305 merc efi

Re: Dry stack exhaust

good set up that dry joint, however we are having issues with the 8.1L motors with factory AL manifolds and the dry joint.
there is one version that freshwater cools the manifold and the T stat discharge water cools the riser.
thats the best one if your heat exhanger will handle it.

My engine is raw water cooled. Would the dry joint be beneficial for my application?

Re: Dry stack exhaust

The only thing you gain by using the dry joint type exhaust system is the knowledge your engine won't fill up with water if the riser to manifold gasket or surfaces fail. That small 1/4" surface between the water and exhaust passage (and open valves to a cylinder) has cost a lot of engines to fail. Especially in salt water.

Re: Dry stack exhaust

Any idea what else I might need to make this conversion? What about my 3" spacer and plumbing?
