So I was headed home on Saturday night about 8 pm. I was walking off the dock and while I was doing that I was watching 3 guys load their boat on the trailer (2 in the boat and one driving the truck)

As I was watching I noticed that the outdrive was still in the down position, I yelled at him and he gave me the "thumbs up" and laughed!!! Did I mention the water police were right there also??? Anyway, the guy in the boat yells "ready" They drag the ourdrive halfway up the ramp. Once they get stopped, I realize that the engine is still running!!!! So they drag the outdrive with the engine running dry, can't get much worse right?

The Police go over to lend a hand and the drive of the truck is arrested for DUI, the guy who was driving the boat was arrested for driving the boat drunk and the other guy was arrested for public intox (he couldn't keep his mouth shut)

What an expensive day!

That's rough. Sad thing is that is the absolute best thing that could have happened.

True, and most of us have been a moron without being drunk (the rest are probably lying or suffering from amnesia), but can you be drunk and not a moron?

Re: Drunken Morons

we had a lady driving her 26ft Sea Ray up to the floating restaurant July 2nd--hit 3 moored sail boats and banged hard into the dock--the City Fire Chief was on the dock watching- called 911-and the city PoPo came and arrested her for BWI. Game Warden hired a contractor to drive her boat across the lake to her marina slip.

I swear it was her boat on July 4th - boat was anchord up at the crowded sand bar--she left the boat anchored unattended-the wind came up and her 20feet of rope & 3 feet of chain in 5 1/2ft of water pulled the anchor loose and it was quickly drifting towards several other boats. Myself & several others pushed the boat back out- --a gal boarded the boat found no one aboard and climbed to the bow. I told her to give me more slack on the line and swam the anchor out 50 feet. The girl who boarded the boat threw everyone who helped a beer from a cooler in the cockpit-:D-- her and a guy on a jet ski came back 30 min later. --no clue as to what happened.

Re: Drunken Morons

some people just shouldn't have boats.
Then again, some people shouldn't have cars, guns, computers, children or tequila, or the right to vote, either.

Present company excepted, of course; we iboat peeps are perfect.

So, I am not the only one, that's a relief... Drug the skeg once, pulled the boat out with the engine running once... No major damage either time (luckily) although the engine running one did scare me more...

Cliff Claven never really said this, but it's a good one.

Cliff expounds his "Buffalo Theory" to Norm:

?Well, you see, Norm, it?s like this. A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it?s the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.

In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine.

And that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers.":D

Re: Drunken Morons

Thankfully no. If I'm ever that drunk on the lake, I really need to just not have a boat. I would have other problems besides a boat.

Alcohol is said to have 3x the effect on water. I saw that in my safety boating course. I don't get the 3x drunk... but I guess some folks do.

I have a feeling the park ranger just wants me to have ZERO alcohol on the boat!

Yup drag my skeg damaged the prop as well  BUT we are only humans aaa that's part of the time ...right???
I was sober as a judge to boot
Was distracted by the moron who parked right infront of my truck while i was loading the boat and then had the nerve to ask how long was I going to be taking to get the boat out. I just looked at him and said "as long as it takes man" then I had to add "thats if you don't move your vehicle". After I pulled out the fun started as he was a newbee and couldn't back his trailer up straight to save his life, backed into the dock a few times and proceeded to back his lil tuck into the water untill the tailgate was at water level, he climbed into the box to let the winck loose . we are all standing there watching this unfold and and 2 of us said at the same time "wonder if he out the plug in?" He had a thermos plug in and it popped out when he drove away.
My wife and I looked at my bent prop and looked at him driving off....all we could do was laff our heads off at the moron because by now there were 3 others waiting in line for the ramp.
Moral of the story "dumb is as dumb dose!"

Re: Drunken Morons

jigngrub, i like that, whether you "stole" it or not...glad you Posted it! The only problem we humans have with "natural selection" is that, unlike animals, our "weaker ones" somehow always manage to get right in the middle of our herd, and mess things up for all those around them...too drunk to retrieve a boat, motor down, and (i can't even imagine this) LEAVING THE MOTOR RUNNING TOO....just seems impossible...and they were just right out there in the middle of the herd...see what i mean, these are the type of people that kill others, and somehow manage to walk away without a scratch...only to do the same thing again another day...I love a cold beer out on the lake as much as anyone, BUT....TIME AND PLACE PEOPLE, time and place...
