This weekend on Skeneateles Lake some people went on the boat with quite a few too many.At 02.30 in the AM they went from the bar to their camping site.On the way there they collided with another boat. The drunks came about and picked up 2 people who were thrown out of their boat and continued to their camping site. They did not bother to check out what happened to the people in the other boat. Both died.
Later when the sheriff came to their camp site, the drunk's brother claimed to have been the driver. However,a while later the real story came out.
Please lay off the booze when you boat.

I agree with you about drinking and boating. Read that story in the paper. BWI is just as dangerous as DWI. The fella faces manslaughter charges. rolmops and other New Yorkers know that NY State frowns heavily on boating and driving while intoxicated. This man faces a long time in prison. He'll probably start off in my home town of Elmira but on a different block than where I lived.

Re: drunken boating

Only time I go out over the weekend is on emergency runs - last weekend we took a guy to the local trauma center and two others to the emergency room because of operator intoxication. The majority of the calls to our lake are because of that - it is really sad when they are underage and dealing with alcohol poisoning.

We get tired of dealing with drunks ...

Re: drunken boating

So many boat operators/captains fail to realize that they are completely responsible for those onboard. I personally don't have a problem with those wishing to drink while out on boats if they are not the operator.

I've boated for many many years. I have always saved my drinking for when I know I'm not operating ANY motor vehicle.

In Ohio, if you get busted for drinking and boating, you lose your driving license.

Wow. The drunk killed a cop and his girlfriend and left the scene of the accident!!!!

I would not want to be in his shoes!

I'd say his life as he knew it will be over.

Re: drunken boating

Sorry folks, but I have nothing for anyone that would drink and drive, be it auto or boat.
You are not only a danger to yourself, but a danger to me and my family.

Blu.
Another sad event that didn't have to happen. A drunk and an unattached lanyard.

Tailgunner, what happened with that boat. Looks like maybe he could have taken a little bit of water over the port quarter. That's the most unstable boat I've ever seen.
