Has anyone done a drum to disc conversion on a trailer? Can it be done on a surge brake equipped trailer? What would something like that cost for a triple axle?

Re: Drum to disc conversion

I did the conversion last month. It's not that hard if things aren't corroded on too bad. It also helps to have the boat off the trailer. You'll need to install a lock-out device on the surge unit so the brakes won't be activated when you back up. There are two types: a lock-out solenoid that is activated when the back-up lights go on and a mechanical valve (much cheaper). You probably won't have enough give in the brake line for a direct hook up. I used a piece of flexible brake line.

I researched this idea a while ago. If you do it make sure of the product you are buying. I have heard some bad things about the early tiedown engineering stuff. It also seamed to be the most available. Check out kodiaktrailer.com. At the time I was looking they sounded like the best product. Good luck.
