I just replace the impeller and changed the gear oil today on my 99 Yamaha 225 hp. The manaual says that it is only 3 bolts on each side and one on the rear underneath the anode. But there is another one that is further up from the anode with a hole that is recessed in.

This information might be useful for anyone that needs it to change impeller and gear oil.

Re: dropping lower unit info.

tgodiver:

Yes you are absolutely right and not a single manual whether Clymer or Yamaha shows this stickin bolt.

I beat the living daylights out of my lowerunit ('97 250hp Yamaha) last fall trying to get her off. I thought she was Frozen stuck with rust or something.

Well, I noticed the mystery bolt by mistake. Took it out and the lowerunit nearly hit me coming off.

I was so pissed I almost called Yamaha and asked for a new lowerunit since I beat mine and marred her up somewhat thinking she was actually stuck.

John from Madison, CT
