I had a bad day yesturday! While out and about fishing I hit something in the water that knocked my engine into the ocean....It's a Force125 1988....is this worth saving?...and what do I need to do?
My dad and i were duck hunting in late october one year. While running the motor shimmied itself up the transom and literally jumped off the back of the boat (small motors have giant thumbscrews to clamp them to the transom instead of bolting).
The motor was running underwater for a few seconds before choking. My dad stripped down and jumped over in probably 10-12 feet of water and tied a line to it. He got back in teh boat and we pulled it in.
We got it back to the house and he pulled the plugs and cranked it over a few times to get the water out. After that he shot the cylinders full of WD40 and sprayed the entire engine liberally. He drained the lower unit and refilled. That was probably 5-6 years ago and the motor has not quit yet. The compression is still even. I think during that time he had to rebuild the carbs but other than that no hiccups what so ever.
His motor is small compared to yours but i dont see what difference that makes. If you have already retrieved it you can probably salvage it. The longer it is under water the worse off it is.
Man it musta ripped the transom to bits. When my gt 150 fell off of my sidewinder it just ripped the top off the transom and fell in the water. I had my buddys haul it up we drained the water out and still run it today. But salt water is a diffrent story.. if you dont get it out within a day its pretty screwed.
