g'day yesterday when i was puting it on the transomi realised i had to put some weight on the front of the trailer as it was tipping back so i left the outboard there not tight just hanging on the transom and pushed the front of the trailer down and walked to the front .when i got ot the front i lfted the coupling up and was about to put a paint pot under it when my hand sliped and the boat tilted back and the outboard hit its skeg on the ground and itfell off the back of the boat and landed on the shed floor. i walked up to it and the fibreglas cover had a huge chunk out of it and the lower cowl has two cracks in it towrds the back and it is bent downward. what is the best thing to do? i tried hamering the cowl back but it hardly moved. and with the fiberglas do i try to epoxy it back? or am i better of finding a used cowling?

Thanks

I think the first thing you need to do is get your trailer properly set up. There should be 7-10% of the total weight on the tongue with the engine installed. Proper setup would have prevented the accident.

Then seek replacement for the parts that broke from a recycler like tcoutboard.com.

Good luck. :)

Cast alloys don't respond well to hammering.
