Hi
I have a 1971 johnson 60hp Hydro electric engine im rebuilding the lower unit, and I need to remove the drive shaft and pinon gear the manual calls for a special type socket to fit the top of the shaft so you can break torque on pinon nut with a socket on other end. does anybody know where i can get this tool or a substitute I can use ive tried SAE and Metric sockets but they dont work???

Thanks All

Re: Driveshaft removal tool

The best thing is too go to dealer and buy proper driveshaft spline socket. But if you are stuck you clamp driveshaft securely in vise, put wrench on pinion nut and turn case too loosen. Pinion nut torque will only be probably 55 to 75 ft lbs. Mike
