hi. i am trying to work out why there is forward/ backward movement of about 1/2 an inch in my driveshaft. it chewed up the coupling damper and i have replaced this but when i run the engine the driveshaft slips backwards. i have looked at the kawasaki parts diagram for the driveshaft and jet sections but still cant see what holds it in its place. any suggestions?

check the motor mounts, if they are bad the engine can move ,, and check the carrier bearing where the shaft goes through the hull. If it is bad it will allow the coupler to move back plus it will usually allow water in the hull

thanks jeff, i did check the engine mounts and found that 3 were bad and i have replaced them so it sounds like the bearing may be the problem. there is also water getting into the hull which would see to back that up. do you mean the front bearing or back or both. is the best way to access these from the engine or jet?

you need to unbolt the engine and move it forward,, then remove the bolts that hold the bearing housing to the hull,, to remove it
