following my incedent with the mooring chain and my lower unit I dropped the LU and the splines on the drive shaft look at little tweaked. not really twisted just a little gouged on one side. The unit came off with ease no binding.

Motor seems to run well, is there more to this situation or can I simply purchase a new LU and install as when I do my bi yearly water pump changes.

Rodbolt any suggestions? or issues that I may encounter in which I should by pass the DIY and let the dealer do the work.

thank you

here are few few pics.

Re: drive shaft splines

well, just looking at the lower about all that comes to mind is that its some type of V4 or 2.6L V6, lack of a shiny spot above the pump shaft usually indicates its a 20" shaft or the bushing is missing from the midsection.
splines look like normal wear if its not been greased yearly with spline grease.
lower case doesnt look trashed, I would dissasemble it and look for any internal damage, the case only shows some cosmetic damage.
I would also pop the flywheel and inspect the flywheel key.
but its very difficult to make educated guess's when one of us is clueless about whats actually being worked on :)

prop looks to be repairable by a competent prop shop.
used prop shafts are readily avalible and easy to check with V blocks and a dial indicator, in fact unless its really really bent its about the only way.
