Drive shaft seal replacement

I earlier posted about my Johnson 9r-69s 9.5hp & my difficulty in removing the lower unit to find an oil leak. Tonight, with some 'sweet talk' & a little TLC, I got the lower unit off BUT...the splined drive shaft separated from the lower unit instead of the powerhead. Does it make any difference which end separates for a seal job? Thanks

If the drive shaft siezes into the crankshaft on these motors there is only one cure, Junk it.

Yeah, right...the seal replacement went just fine and the motor is good as new!!!
