I searched the Forums with no result, along with reading the Engine FAQ's and Seloc. Since I have the lower unit off to change the impellar, should I apply any grease to the shaft? Or atleast to the input splines on the motor where the shaft slides in ? I was thinking maybe it would inhibit any rust from forming at the joints/splines. Just in case!?:/

Also, there wouldnt be a problem with hooking the water hose straight to the cooling pipe and spraying water through the engine would there? Just to maybe flush out any debris or is this not a good idea.

This is MY first boat and motor. Since I have to mantain it I want to do everything I can, when I can. Maybe I am being overly cautious?:%

Sure, spray the garden hose up there.
Remove the thermostat cover and thermostat first.

Lightly grease the splines of the driveshaft.
Make sure you only put grease on the sides, not on the end of the driveshaft.
