Drive Shaft Bushing

I finally got the lower unit off my 1991 150 yamaha. The drive shaft was seized to the shift shaft as stated in my previous posts. Now the questions is the rubber seal and bushing. The rubber seal is beat up pretty bad and the bushing is marred. I don't see the seal on any part lists. I see the bushing and a circlip r-type. I am not sure what this assembly looks like.

Should I stone open the bushing if so how much bigger then the drive shaft should it be. Or should the bushing and seal be replaced. if so what is involved with removing the seal and bushing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Drive Shaft Bushing

for starters you have stated the absolute impossible.
the driveshaft simply cannot stick to the shift shaft, the two are several inches apart.
yes corrosion can swell the bushing, simply remove the circlip, sometimes I just grab them and destroy the clip due to corrosion.
then use a chisiel and break up the bushing then remove the rubber part and thouroughly clean the bore and install a new bushing and clip. takes all of 10 minutes.
aint gotta clue about what seal your talking about.

Re: Drive Shaft Bushing

Oops, sorry about that I meant to say drive shaft was seized to the drive shaft bushing. Don't know where I can up with that one. That shift shaft is a whole other animal, changing that . Last night I just did exactly what you said. I chipped out the bushing it just crumblied apart. I don't really know what the rubber part looked like, on the top and bottom of the bushing, due to the fact it was ripped apart. I thought it was a seal or wiper or something. New parts on order should arrive on Tuesday. I don't see that rubber part listed anywhere Does it come with the bushing as an assembly or do I have to order it seperatly.

Thanks agian,

Re: Drive Shaft Bushing

the bushing, when new, is encapsulated in the rubber. its all one piece when new.
your on the right track, dont get scared now :) :).
