Howdy,
I'm a couple weeks away from salting the boat away for a another winter... DANG! I need a longer summer season. This will be my second winterization.
Anyway, I'm good with all the basic winterizing stuff I think (fluids, filters, draining the block, impeller), but I plan to remove the drive this fall (first time) and replace the gimbal bearing, the u-joint and the bellows. I've got most everything I'll need on order. I built a stand for the drive (per direction on these forums). I have the alignment tool. I also have a few questions.
My SX Service Manual says to "Remove and discard six lock nuts." I have been doing a lot of research on the drive remove and install and haven't heard any mention of needing to use new nuts to reattach the drive. Can anyone with the SX (or DP-S) confirm that I can re-use the nuts?
Second, do I need to use adhesive on the bellows? I see the kit I'm ordering has clamps for one end of each bellows and the manual doesn't mention adhesive on the other ends, but it seems that the bellows should have something holding them in place if they need to keep water out.
Any pointers on the process would be great.
Thanks.
