Drive Ratio

How do I check if the ratio on my drive it supposed to be a 1:95

any help appreciated

Disable the coil (pull kill switch, coil wire, something) so it won't start. Put muffs on and put drive in gear. Put a mark on one prop blade and on damper. Jump across slave solenoid so motor cranks over and count revolutions of damper and prop. Have it turn over at least 10 revolutions

Is the little plate on the outdrive missing? Or is it there, but you just want the aggravation of checking it for your self?

Had the drive replaced last year and ever since cant reach anywhere near the speed as the previous drive, and the revs are really high, there is a plate on the drive saying 1:95 but doesn't look like the original

Guy up in Baltimore Harbor, 28ft.260hp.
Bought without a drive.
Someone sold him a drive from a 4 cyl.
Same problem.
Boat wouldn't get out of it's own way.

Just realized this is a VP, so instead of a slave solenoid, you have an assist relay. Probably easiest way is to remove the relay and jump across pins 30 and 87

Vibration damper, or is also called balancer which has the timing marks on it and mounted on the crank shaft behind the crank pulley
