Drive or engine noise

I have a 2002 Merc 6.2 with a bravo 1 drive. Recently I have noticed a whining or zinging sounding noise from about 2500 rpm when I get on a plane all the way to WOT. I changed the gear lube about two months ago and it looked good(no metal or water). The drive turns easy just like it always has and everything seems to run fine. I also have been noticing a little more vibration than usual when turning. Could this be a gimbal bearing or universal joint wearing out that is making this whining zinging noise? I only notice it when I am on a plane between 2500 to 5000 rpm's. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

I am going to pull the drive off and inspect. Do I need to drain the drive lube before I pull it off? I have the bravo manual and it does not specify.

Vibration in a turn usually means the u-joints.Then the gimbal bearing.Try greasing the gimbal as you idle in the drive.Sometimes this helps.J
