My (Drive) Gear Lube Monitor tank is low and I don't know what type of fluid I need to replace it with. My assumption is with Gear oil, but can I find that at any Advance Autoparts store or do I have to go to a marine store. In my area there isn't many places to get this. Thanks for your help.

Re: Drive Lube Monitor

Top it up with what ever is in there now. If you don't know what is in there now, then it's time to change the gear lube and put in the proper lube.
My first question would be "WHY" is it low?
Second question (Should have been the first) is what drive do you have, include year and model.

Re: Drive Lube Monitor

Sorry I've been away. I have a 2000 Maxium 1800SR. with 135HP Mercruiser engine.

To be honest I have no idea why. I can only speculate. My wife started the engine without putting the engine down while in the water one time.

How much does it take and cost to change the gear lube?

I was told that the oil I need to put in there is the Trim oil. Is this the same thing as the Gear Lube?

You should use Quicksilver High Performance Gear Lube.

Email me and I'll send you the O&M manual for that engine/drive combo.

Edit: well never mind then . . .
