FIGHTING getting my U joint bellows on the bellhousing. I have the pins out which should make it easier...but its not

Why cant I just drill a hole in the side of the bellhousing for an access to the hose clamp screw. The same way there is one in the side of the transom?
I cant imagine there would be that much force on the bellhousing that a 3/8 hole would shatter it will in use

Any insight cause I'm at that point.

If you put the clamp where its supposed to go its not a problem. You put the bellow on the housing first, then attach the transom end

I did it in reverse. I could pull it apart but at this point I'm ok with drilling a hole. It's an older boat not really concerned about the looks of a hole.....Is there any reason I Can't drill a hole. It would make things easier at this point
