draining oil

Purchased Yamaha F150TLR, noticed oil was over filled. I wanted correct the oil level. Manual says "Remove drain plug then open fill cap to vent" . When I removed drain plug, the oil streamed out. There was an open vent somewhere with the fill cap and dip stick in place. Is this normal?

Normal, there is enough volume in the oil sump to allow the oil to run out. Not like a lower unit and much thinner oil to boot.

Do yourself a favor and by an oil change pump. Quick, easy and no chance of stripping the drain plug..
