Drain hose shinkage?

I recently had a rear drain hose pull off the fitting leading to the outside of the boat in the bottom of the transom.

Upon trying to attach it back I found it to be almost an inch shorter and could not reach the fitting the hose clamp was still intact on the hose.

I've since found that this drain hose can shrink after time and actually pull off of the fittings or tear.

Upon doing a little investigation I found that Sea Hunt had an issue with drain hoses shrinking and comming loose.

My question is has anyone experienced or heard of this type of incident?

My older boats live well hose shrunk broke off at the transom it’s buried deep. I never used it anyway except the couple of times someone’s flipped it on and flooded the boat I didnt even re attach it when I overhauled the boat. We use the live well for storage any way.

Thanks I have an adjuster telling me that can't happen, iv got about 5 incidents proving him wrong amongst other things.

I’ve specified and designed more hose assembles than I care to remember over the years. Most failures are age, load, installation or application issues.

From my experience quality hoses have very little to no shrinkage at all.

Double clamped hoses don’t come off... at least on fittings designed for use with ose in use.

It went from the front live well drain to the transom.

Upon trying to reconnect it was at least an inch from the fitting. Seahunt said that environmental's condition caused the hose to shrink due to a rubber coil inside the PVC, And was known to actually pull off fittings.

It had to shrink there were there was no other explanation.

Mine was intact, but the plastic through hull fittings (in and out) were both replaced by stainless plug fittings out of concern for potential leaks. Nearly impossible to service internally. Same reason why too. Live well is used for storage.

It's actually a flexible PVC compound with an embedded hard PVC spiral reinforcement according to them the flexible portion of the hose lost some of its properties and became stiff and sticky developing on the hose subsequent reduction and length they have become disconnected from drain fittings in the cockpit due to reduction in length.

Yesterday, I discovered the same issue on my Ultra 211. My mechanic told me there's a recall for this issue. He's going to look into this next week.

I would re-plumb the boat and make sure to have adequate service loops where needed.

My thought would be to re plumb IF YOU NEED IT/FEEL IT"S WORTH IT. Otherwise, eliminate it using different inlet/outlet fittings.

Having the same issue with my 23ft. Couldn't figure out why bilge pump kept running. Repair shop says the hoses shrunk and pulled off fittings and they can't reattach. So they are planning to put in new hoses but have to cut into the boat because the area isn't accessible. Did you get your issue resolved? Insurance telling me they won't cover it.
