I went over to the boat stor today to buy my repair manual and my girl friend draged me out. I tried to fight her off but she is much bigger then me :( I only got my manual "SNIFF SNIFF" I saw all kinds of goodies I would have liked to take home.

I baught the SELOC manual and boy that manual doesn't give me the information I desire. Now she won't let me get another one (HMMM Taking back that ingagement ring SNICKER SNICKER).

OK the problem is that this book doesn't give very good information. I know that when I remove the upper half of my 74 johnsohn 70 that I am going to have to lay it down on something. I would like to know what is the best way to set it without hurting anything. I will be removing the lower half first. I have a "VERY SMALL" work area to rebuild this thing. Can I lay it down on just a peace of ply without building anything up for it or should I have something higher with holes to allow stuff to fit through?

Best way to set it is upright.....like it sets on the midsection. Use some scrape would to set it on and keep it stable. This way you can can remove the components easily and turn it around if you need to.

Once the head is removed, you can set it on the flat head surface to separate the crankcase halves and work on the crankshaft.

I've also found that keep the individual component fasteners in separate marked containers is a good idea and helps during reassembly. No guessing as to which bolt goes where.

Re: Draged out KICKING AND SCREAMING!!!!

Ok thank you. I have alot of ziplock bags and tape to write information on. I also have purchased multi collored electrical tape for marking the wires and hoses with. I will aplie the tape and take a couple of digital pictures this should help keep my memory strait when I put this thing back together.

I have a feeling that this will be a slow project due to school, work, money, girl friends (OK OK ONLY ONE) and pure lazyness so I realy plan on making sure I have everything well marked and documented. I am going to have to leave the lower end in my van on foam for now so I have already made a way to keep it safe. Wish me luck tomorrow or the next day... or the next... ahhhhhhhh when ever I get to this LOL. I am excided to get out on the lake so I will work as fast as money allows.
