DP-C1 penta outdrive- clunks when shifting

Hi all,
after a summers boating I have a quick question, my 93 dp-c1 drive is quite clunky when I shift into/out gear, on the muffs on land it is seamless, but in the water it does seem to clunk quite a bit, I have got the tickover set right and wondered if there was something that needed adjustment as my friends is lovely and smooth.

What's your idle rpm? Should be 700 rpm max. Do you have SS Props?

Hi Don,
RPM is around 600-700rpm, tried to go a bit lower but she would die when I went to shift into gear if that makes sense(another minor niggle at the moment), running standard alu duo props still.

The upper gear box may need to be re-shimmed. Many times the lower circlip washer gets bent over from use and the gap under the top nut is too big and allows too much movement causing it to bang into gear.

Don is that specific to this drive, or can other drives (like the SX) have the same problems? Can it be specific to just forward or reverse or will it affect both?

The SX is setup different and may not have that problem. Haven't had an SX apart since 06.

Thanks Don, is the procedure for re-shimming the drive in the manual? Am away from my laptop at the moment so cant check my manual

It's in the OEM manual, have no idea what manual you have.
