i just got a new boat and it came with 2 scotty downriggers they both of them look pretty much brand new, one is electric and the other is manual.
i dont know what these are for and when i asked the guy he said they are for trolling in the ocean.
i dont have enough exp nor do i really care to go into the ocean so i am wondering if this is the only purpose for these, if so i am thinking about trading them for some sturgeon gear or some trolling gear.

Re: downriggers

Ayuh,...

Downriggers are for Controlled Depth trolling,...
Regardless of Where you're fishing...
And,,. Regardless of the Depth...
They work at the 20' level, or the 200' level,....

Re: downriggers

Keep them for now, you're just getting into this and you may need them in the near future when you get exposed to more types of fishing in your area.

Re: downriggers

I just got my downriggers and will be installing them in the next month. When combined with a depth finder, they are great for precision trolling. See the fish, set the depth and troll above them. There are great resent threads in this sections if you what more information.

I am going after land locked steelhead and bass. Should be fun.
