i just purchased an 88 Sea Ray Seville 20' Cuddy Cabin. im interested in installing new downriggers on the back for some serious stiper fishing, but Im not sure its possible. There are 2 seats on either side of the engine and it doesnt seem like there is anywhere to mount the downriggers. Anyone come upon a problem of this sort and found a solution? I sure would like to here a solution so i can go fishing!!

Re: Downrigger applications

I have seen some boats owners that have built a "shelf" or something like it that extends above the transom to mount downriggers.

This was usually due to a sharp downward slope above the transom or other obstructions.

I'm considering building an aluminum "rack" for my Lowe, that would extend across the stern, with clearance for the motor. The plan is to mount the downriggers higher for easier access, than if they were mounted on the abaft gunwales.

Start dreamin'

I don't know of your type of boat but my downrigger mounts from the rod holders. It's a commercially bought one and the rod sits alongside. Works great. Have you rod holders on the stern or side of your boat?
Ross

Re: Downrigger applications

I have 2 cannon downriggers with gimble mounts that go in the rod holders, the downrigger also has a rod holder, works well.
