Downloading GPS Problems

I have a Magellan Meridian Color and MapSend Topo. I'm running Windows XL.

The software is not detecting the GPS. This connects to the serial port. The Mapsend goes thru a dectect cycle scanning the baud rates.

I has been a long time since I've downloaded anything and this has happened before, but I can;t remember the trick.

Thanks, for any ideas. Mike

Re: Downloading GPS Problems

I have the Meridian Platinum and have also had the same problems. Its been years since I have downloaded anything to the GPS, so you are really testing an old mans memory.
I dug through some old paperwork that I received from Magellan, and some things are coming back to mind. When I asked Magellan, this was their answer. "Once you use the comport with Windows XP it will block your comport. You will need to reboot your computer in order to download back to your computer."
Have you tried to contact Magellan directly with this problem? Maybe they have a newer and better way to download to the GPS. Some computers now days don'r even have a serial port.

Re: Downloading GPS Problems

One other thing. Magellan knew they had a problem with downloads to the Meridian, and my manual is full of apologies while they worked on the problem.
One thing you could try is using a SD card reader/writer that will plug into your USB port. It will tell you how to do this in the "MapSend and Meridian User Notes" publication sent out by Magellan.
I haven't tried this method, but it sounds like an option.
