Hmmm. Interesting diagnoses. The issue did occur once or twice the past two years. Last fall had the dealer re-do the pads and flush the lines. Issue got worse (more frequent) this spring. Dealer replaced the bearings as they were indeed cooked...and problem persisted. They did also check the calipers (supposedly) and flushed all the fluid.
I pulled the actuator because I've read that the rod can occasionally get stuck. I had also noticed the lack of a 'Clunk' when pulling forward after a stop as the actuator goes back to the towing position. I was unable to pop it back into place with the screwdriver technique. So the fact that the actuator is the incorrect model for a single-axle trailer is a red herring, you think?
I'm not a mechanic by any stretch, but would a stuck caliper affect both wheels? Both get hot - or both do not get hot. It's not just the one wheel.
