What length of boat is that? Mine doesn't sit that low but its a 24' I have to distribute the cargo. From the water stains it looks like it has been riding like that for a while. Check for water in the toons, If no water try moving some stuff around, It looks a little low for me but I'm no expert by any means. Let others chime in to see what they say before you listen to me.

Thanks for the response, more info...

'93, 20' pontoon with 75 Hp motor.

I'm shopping pontoons and just trying to learn what to look for. Comes with a bunk trailer as well for 6000...

Seems like a good deal however I'm looking for a toon with some open deck on the front.

from the ad.

For sale is a 1993 Premier Castaway 20ft. fish and cruise pontoon in excellent condition with a 2006 bunk trailer. The trailer is like new as it has only been pulled a couple times. The pontoon has a 1995 75 hp mercury 2 stroke oil injected motor that runs excellent. Also has the bigger pontoons, a front mount remote trolling motor, power anchor, locator, live well, docking lights, 4 pedestal seats 2 in front 2 in back, sun canopy with a screen enclosure that connects to it so its like a screen porch, and 2 covers 1 snaps on and the other pulls over. The pontoon is very clean and there is no tears in the seats or carpet and the floor is solid as it was always covered or shedded. Pontoons are nice and straight too. Overall it is in very good condition and work great for fishing or cruising the lake, very comfortable.

The 75 on back of the 20 foot with fuel tanks is prob making it sit low (check for water in the logs though). $6000 seems a little high to me but I'm a tight wad LOL. I bought mine a couple of years ago(1990 Lowe 240 with a 1990 merc. 75) and I had the seats redone added 2 pedestal fishing seats and a trolling motor well below that. Sometimes you can find one that needs a little work cheaper and then have it fixed up like you want than buying one and then spending more money for the extra. Not hijacking your thread but here are some pictures of mine with a total investment of $4,290. Just giving you something to think about.

Without actually seeing it in the water......??? If it was left at a dock for extended periods that water line might look higher from waves splashing. Don't know.

By the ad is says that it has the bigger pontoons, which should be 25" and not 23". If it had 25" toons I wouldn't think it would sit quite that low in the water. But it depends on how the weight was loaded. Maybe the live wells and fuel tank are located towards the rear of the boat causing it to sit like that.

It looks low to me, but the line looks like it go's up in the back so it may be spray from when the boat is moving. Put it in the water and see where it sits. I would not expect a 75 hp 2 stroke to sit that low, maybe a larger 4 stroke, but not that motor.

I can't see the pic because I'm at work, so I don't know if it's too low in the water or not. I'll try and remember to look when I get home. However, sight unseen I'd say 6 grand is too much. Almost twenty years old and only 20' long wouldn't go for near that much around here. Sounds to me like he's trying to recoup the cost of the trailer, but he'll soon learn it doesn't work that way.

they are more costly but a tri toon is the way to go..i had a 28' pontoon boat with the smaller toons it was like trying to push a elephant through the water..even after I got all the water logged plywood seats out and just had an open deck, I was going to purchase another 24' toon to go up the middle to get it up out of the water some but just sold it. I had a 115 on the back and it was still slow and drank fuel fast. I rode on a 30' tri toon set up as a ferry boat once with a 70 on back and 25 people and it would still out run mine, but it sat way up out of the water even loaded. My dad owns a 24' with a 60 four stroke on it and the large toons and it goes slow even unloaded and not as bad on fuel as my old one but still doesnt get good MPG. so my personal thought is a tri toon or no toon. but if you are not going far and are not in a hurry to get there..2 toon boats are good. Have you looked at the Deck boats?? much better speed and MPG.

Thanks for the replies.

Prices on boats up here are fairly high. 6000 for that pontoon with trailer is a fair price. the interior is nice as well.

As I said I'm not that interested in that pontoon, I'm just trying to figure out what to look for. I'm going to wait until summer to buy so I can test drive and make sure everything works.

I still can't decide if I want to go for a larger engine for tooning on bigger water, or just go with a 50-60 hp for small water/river cruising. I have a 20 ft bowrider with a deep v for the bigger water now.

I don't mind working on the pontoon but I don't need a full blown project. Mrs. Mello doesn't want a beater.

Seems low to me. My '88 20 ft. was higher with smaller 21" toons. The water line at the rear was at the half way point on the toon. My new one has a 60 4 stroke with 26" toons and is much higher.

Now that I've seen the pics I agree the water line seems high in the back. Whatever is responsible is likely fixable, so if you really like the barge that could be a negotiating point. One thing to consider in general; most barges built before '98 or so will have plywood seat bases instead of the rotocast construction. The rotocast is definitely preferable, especially for toons that have lived in a slip. Happy hunting.

Looks low to me also. When I look at pontoons I like to see the water line no more than halfway up at the back. It's a sign of something being too heavy for sure.

Any toon shouldn't set lower then half way in the water,, An sure would take more power to push it being that low in the water,,

This is definitely too low. I would look for busted mounts on the tops of the toons near the rear letting water in. If there is drains at the back you could open them and see what comes out.

It's too low. I thought mine seemed low but no where near as low as yours sits. Check out the pictures of mine in the water on Flicker. Just click on the photo you want and it will come full screen. I have two good shots. One from each side. On the right is the whole album with five or six pictures.

Seems a bit low to me too, judging by the water stain line.

My 20 SweetWater floats right below 1/2 up on the back. More out than in. The front is only about 2-3 inches up at best.

That's with no passengers. Just floating. 60hp Merc, 20 gals++ of fuel, full sun deck in rear, canopy folded down, etc.

That one either has a lot or furniture or water in the logs.

For the right price, not $6k, it would/could be nice. The 75hp motor should scoot along good.
