hello all. I am going to pull the power head from a 79 85 hp johnson and put it on an 80 85 evinrude. I have a johnson manual for my 76 85's and a seloc for a general view. looking at the manual it says to remove the flywheel. my question is if i am just swapping them does the flywheel need to come off to separate the powerhead from the midsection or is this because the manual is telling you how to rebuild it not swap it. if someone has any insight on this it will be most appreciated. thanks

No need to remove the flywheel. Read further down that manual... they would have you removing the crankshaft!

The only difference in the two engines is that the 79 has choke plates in the carbs. All your hookups should be the same.
