I was reading a post in a chainsaw forum that said that today's oils lubricate better than oils of the 50's and that a 2-cycle mix of 24:1 could be replaced with 50:1 with these oils.

Is this at all true. and will it hurt to just use the 24:1 or will that foul it?

If your motor was designed for 24:1, keep using that ratio. The new oils do lubricate better and they also burn better so fouling won't be a problem.
