Does my motor have a voltage regulator? 1988 Sea Ray 100 HP

I have looked and looked to find the voltage regulator on this engine - 1988 Sea Ray (Mercury) 100 HP 4 cyl - #B279552. My local mechanic even told me where to look - (on top of the air horn) but all I see there are empty screw holes.

His computer doesn't specify which of 3 alternative parts is the right one to replace it - I have to find out which type one I have now.

This motor produces variable voltage depending on engine rpm - I think maybe it always has, since I got it in 92.

I am concerned about intermittent problems with the tach reading high - and had read a previous thread suggesting that the voltage regulator or rectifier may be the cause. I am stuck with my troubleshooting however because I can't find it.

Some of the 4 cyl product did not have the large square voltage rectifier that others had.

Easiest way to find what you have.

Follow the yellow wires from the stator. They may go to a gray terminal block. From there to a rectifier and tach.

TMD
