Does my engine have to be tilted up or down when flushing with fresh water?

I have 2000 130 hp yamaha with an attachment for fresh water flushing by a garden hose. Does it make a difference what position the engine is in when using this device? I usually tilt it all the way out of the water before flushing it. It is easier for me to do it this way due to my docking position, but is it ok to do so? The manual doesn't specify. Thanks,Pat

Lonewolf, so what you are saying is that it is not good for the engine to be running while tilted! I agree with that. But it is ok to run it while flushing as long as the engine is not tilted up , is that correct?

My boat is docked to a marina pontoon. I have to flush with my engine tilted. I use standard muffs on the bottom of the leg. If I didn't tilt the motor would still be getting salt water pumped in as the muffs would be submerged.<br /><br />I can't see a problem doing this.

Is water coming out of telltale ?<br />If so, it's going through the motor. If not SHUT IT OFF.

yamaha with an attachment for fresh water flushing by a garden hose that is located on the side of the engine is for flushing only do not run the engine.You can also flush with the mickey mouse ears on the lower unit with the engine running.
