Does Honda BF5A Outboard Shaft have to be removed to pull off oil pan?

Hi All,

I have a BF5A as the title states. It is a 1998 or 1999 model. I am trying to install a new oil pan. But I am not able to get the pan off. I can get it about 3 inches apart, then it gets stuck on something in there. Do I need to pull the shaft off the crank? I have a Seloc manual for my engine year. But it does not have any instructions for removing the shaft in order to get the oil pan off. It really does not say much about anything really related to a BF5. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi,

Did you have any luck with the removal of the oil pan on your Honda engine. I have the same problem and would appreciate any help/feedback.

Thanks

The shaft must be removed to get the oilpan off. You may need to heat up the shaft up as they can be on there pretty good, good luck

My problem is how much heat do I apply? and should I make up a slide hammer to help separate the shaft? Any help would be apprecisted. Another question, which part of the sharft do I heat up, is it the part bellow the seal or do I lower the pan and heat the part of the sharft inside the pan. HELP &Thanks
