Does anyone still make a good, BIG trihull?

We have a 1977 boat whose hull seems to be a cross between a tri-hull and a deep-V. It rides well, a little bumpier than a V, but when stopped the boat is great. Four guys on one side and the boat only tilts a little bit.

Does anyone still make a 18-21 foot, large, tri-hull boat? Those Boston Whalers, and their very low sides, just don't interest us.

Names/websites much appreciated.

thanks

That's a great question. I've been wondering the same thing lately since I own an old 17' tri-hull and like it's stability and handling. Boston Whalers are great boats but I also don't care for the low sides and the high price tags. Maybe a company will pick up some old molds and start making them again. Meantime keep on the lookout for old-timers.(Mfg,Thunderbird,etc.)
Happy Boating
Rocks

Look into some manufacturers deck boats. They are based on the old style tri-hull configuration. I just bought this year my Sylvan 20 foot deck boat. 4.3 I/O, enclosed head, tons of seating, does 43MPH empty and 40MPH with 9 adults.

Here is the manufacturer page:
http://www.sylvanmarine.com/2002/fiberglass/spaceship2030io.htm

Here is a link to one of the frames of my home page. You can see the tri-hull from the front, but the middle "v" is about a foot deeper then the sides. I LOVE this boat, coming off a 20 foot cuddy. It rides the chop so much better and has so much more power then an outboard. Won't ever go back!

http://home.attbi.com/~thorsont/00sylvan.htm

Good luck!
NOTE: because this boat is not "modern stylish" with a wrap around windshield, they can be had much cheaper then another boat with comparable features. Mine is a 2000 model that sat at the dealer until August 2002 in which I bought the whole setup, boat, trailer, tax and all for $22,500 out the door. List is like $29,000 with the 200hp v6.

I found a picture of the boat hull type I'm looking for. Here is the link.

http://home.gwi.net/~dclough/18.gif

This boat, new, with slightly higher sides in back is exactly what I'm looking for.

As Todd said, deckboats are about the last stand of the tri-hull design. There are a few skiffs still made with that bow, but even these are rare -

http://www.mckeecraft.com/boats/17_sp.htm

Kelly Cook

Hey 93Evinrude,

That's is the EXACT hull that I want!. I'll take the extra bouncing at high speed/waves for stability at low speed any day.

Now, would someone be willing to drive that across the pacific and to the east coast of the USA for me?

McKee doesn't make their "17 foot Offshore" any more but they do make an 18 footer which is also self bailing. It's called the "185 Offshoreman". Nice boat, I've been in one.
