Does anyone make this part for a 72 Merc I/O anymore?

I have a post on the resto forum (72 Thunderbird Formula w/twin 165hp Mercs). I am getting close to being done on the fiberglassing side and have started trying to rebuild these inline 6 250's and the 2 Merc 165 stern drives. I have a question about a part that is apparently obsolete now. The part is the Tilt Stop Switch assembly in the Gimbal Ring, possible part#45942A1. Both of the ones on this boat have been fried years before the boat was stored 12 years ago. I don't really need the part I know but since I am trying to rebuild everything back as close to original as I can I was trying to see if anyone knows of any company or location that may have these obsolete parts or should I just seal up the holes and stop wasting time and money trying to find a pair of these. I will post a picture of the style of outdrives I have on my boat. The picture is from the internet since I couldn't find any of the ones I have.

The next 2 pictures are of one of the gimbal houses that are from my boat. The part is located at the top of the gimbal ring.

Your not going to find that switch, and if you do it probably doesn't work. The switch is normally closed, so if yours are still there you might be able to rig something up, but other then that I would just forget it.

Your setup being that old you could also upgrade (big bucks), but I know your trying real hard to put it back to original.

Here's one of the part number you posted, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Quicksilver-...fb473f&vxp=mtr

And try calling/walking into your local Merc dealer parts clerk and ask them to run the part number under Mercnets obsolete/no longer available program. Below is a small list of dealers that participate in the dealer to dealer program of hard to find parts.< As an example, that's how many dealers had the part in stock for this guy, http://www.mercurypartsus.com/forum4....html#post1959,
One of these guys may have one or may know where to get one more.

With the help of the internet and time looking/waiting, A lot of items tend to pop up from time to time. Then if the dealer you're working with knows about the dealer to dealer program and are willing to help out a customer vs themselves then that's just one more chance to finding something before exhausting all leads.

Problem might be someone at the dealer doesn't know about the program or doesn't want to let everyone else know it exists. The program isn't a guarantee... just more of a last chance at finding one in stock someplace.

I discovered that the same trim switch in my MC-1 was shot. I tried for hours to make a silk purse out of it with heat shrink tubing and sealant, but in the end, the wires were just too dried out and brittle. Even the copper itself was suspect with corrosion setting in where the insulation was cracked next to the sealed switch. I ended up just bypassing the switch by shorting the old trim switch wires inside the boat. If you do this though, you gotta remember though not to trim too high with the engine running. - Grandad
