I have not filed a clam but i did get a quote from boat US and went with progressive because the coverage was the same and they where cheaper. I've also had good service from progessive for auto insurence.

I do, and love it. I was going to use Allstate, but they were hundreds more so I came across BoatUS. They only insure boats so their rates seem to be better. I haven't filed a claim, but I also have their tow insurance and when I was coming back to Atlanta from Alabama, on a Sunday, I blew a trailer tire. No tire shop was open, I called BoatUS and the lady took my information, said "give me 15 minutes" and within 10 she called me back and said someone was on their way to fix the tire. I only had to pay for the tire, not for the service call; they pick that up, up to $150/incident. Was great!

I had it on a sail boat that Disappeared during Katrina and they promptly paid for the replacement cost(minus deductable) Only problem was they held $500 for the title which was also washed away in the missing house, but that just required getting a replacement title from the state and got the remaining money. so thumbs up here

Sea Tow gave me a better rate plus Boat US would not write for hull insurance the first year plus even without hull insurance they wanted an inspection for a 20' fiberglass bow rider! Sea Tow was much easier to work with.

I have it but have yet to use it. Hopefully it will stay that way.

Just wondering how long ago that was; I didn't have to go through any of that, but I bought a brand new boat so maybe that was why.

The original question had nothing to do with money but rather your experience with the company- Let's hope your choice of words "dumb" was not referring to the original question

Sorry, but I'm sticking to my guns..location means quite a lot (and the people in it...). My brother (the oldest kid runs it now) started an Adjuster business in SoCal. Deals with people all over the west coast, from all sorts of different companies, from ATV's to cars to M/C's to boats. Pick any INS ya want, its mostly a agent you will deal with, after that, its up to the Underwriters.
WHERE you boat, WHAT boat, expierence, inland fishing in Kansas, , open ocean off the Mexican coast...all counts. Sea tow ins might not make sense in Kansas, but ya better have it anywhere salt.
As to the front runner, you answered your own question..
"BOAT US Insurance?--part of the West Marine Organization- actually CNA is the underwriter I think"
My take is its a big convulted racket, but those involved make good money, and some of the sharpest lawyers ever meet..

Your point is well taken- boat inland in south louisiana, 190 SSI Chaparral-

My mother was in the insurance rating industry for over 30 years. She would not share your thoughts on a company such as CNA- neither would many agents

We are all entitled to our perspective. As a 55 year old executive I tell my employees that the only "dumb question is the one you do not ask"
