You could find a real nice diesel pick up for 15-25K not to sure what the prices are you're looking at on the 1500s now....

That is exactly the price range I am looking for. diesels in that range are around 2004/2005 with 150k miles compared to 2010 gassers with about 80k miles.

For 25k you should be able to get a nearly new ram. You can get a new 2016 quad cab express for around $32k

Looking for crew cab (not quad cab - need the extra room) slt, and hemi. 20 to 25k out here. Maybe I just need to be patient. Wish I could go with a quad cab. There are tons of those out there in my range with 60 to 75k miles.

No problem finding crews in that price range, your just going to be more like 60K miles on a crew for 25K as opposed to maybe 35K miles on a quad for the same price. I needed the crew cab as well since my kids are all around 6ft

Something like this is super common for around 25K
2012 Crewcab SLT with 60K

Heres a good resource for hemi owners.Of particular interest to me was the special note about using 5w20 oil and the risk of engine issues if you think you know better than the manufacture and use other wise unless noted in your manual .Makes me wonder if my brother caused his problems by that .http://www.allpar.com/mopar/new-mopar-hemi.html

Not sure why anyone would not run 5w-20. MDS or not. In my case, not. In my last few trucks I never considered running anything else. I just assumed they wanted that oil due to tighter tolerances.....

One of the reasons I used to see on the Ram forum was that someones brand of magic oil (Amsoil as I recall) didn't come in a 5w20 at the time and sticking with the over priced snake oil was more important to them than what it said in the manual.

Adding to oldjeeps post, I have a 4.6 ford of 03 vintage which states 5w20 and I cant believe the people I know that think that's too little .My answer to them is your a average joe so im going to listen to you over a company that spent millions designing and perfecting a motor,NOT! Their not telling you to use only their oil their telling you to use a certain grade based on their millions spent on design and research and millions of miles of testing.

Know of someone who had an older car that was supposed to have 5w-30 in it, but one time while he was idling on a hot day with the AC on, the oil pressure light came on. He called the dealer and asked him about it, and he told him to get that thin oil out of there and run 10w-30. Problem solved.

Someone else had a F-150 that he decided to run a thicker weight oil (thinking 5w-30) than the 5w-20 it called for. It developed a tick and he inquired dealer about it. They told him to put the correct weight oil in it, because of the tolerance within the engine.

I run whatever is recommended, though will admit that 5w-20 is pretty thin.....

My search is dragging on and I beginning to change my mind. Why look so hard for a replacement of a truck that only has 130k miles and runs perfectly (yes, it is still 15 years old)? I am seriously thinking of just putting the $25k into another boat -- maybe an older 28 to 35 footer I can keep in a slip at the harbor. I don't think I will be towing very far or often if I have a boat that is already in the water. The BR might wind up getting neglected this summer.

Yeah, I don't know that I would bother trading a 130K vehicle for something with 60-70K unless your 130K vehicle is having major issues. My 132K vehicle Ram will get replaced around 200K with a new 0K truck.

Now a 25K 28-35 footer, you might be money ahead to just buy a brand new $60,000 pickup ;)

True. There are tons of them around here for that price, but adding another $20+k is easy to do. I may get lucky if I look for a while. Around here, there are many older boats in that size that are used for the occasional weekend condo on the water and have very low hours on the motor(s). The problem is finding one that isn't rotted out.

Here is one on the low end of my range -- http://www.lbys.com/site_page_18406/item_1622439.html?listing_page=listing_sum_year_1.html

Mostly kidding because my father in-law just got rid of his beautiful looking Searay 280 or 300 Sundancer last year and I know what it was costing him in random equipment failure and maintenance problems. Not to mention his rack storage.

Wonder what type of oil he was using and how many miles were on it because 5w30 and 10W30 should be the same viscosity when hot unless the oil is worn out.

If this was regular dino oil with VIP in it then that is understandable but that would never happen with modern synthetic oils.

Yeah seriously, 130k is really no miles at all. Unless the truck really annoys you somehow, you're a good 8 years from 200k where you might think about dumping it, but even then, you could probably make it almost new again for a couple or three thousand. Like oldjeep says, if you're not having issues and still like driving it, there's really no reason to move on.

The old truck got a new tranny, ujoints, and 4.11 rear end in the last 6 months. Definitely leaning towards keeping it. Been looking at boats all day and that is way more fun than looking at trucks (at least for me it is). The Admiral and the kids really like the idea too. Might go put a deposit on a slip this weekend.

Whoa! You've already fixed what was wrong. You should be good for another 100-150k. The major stuff is new.
