I just hopped on "The Hull Truth" dockside chat. It was a thread about some black kids.
The r@c1sm and arguments and flaming were loud.
All I can say is that I do not miss the old dockside chat wars at all.
Now I really understand what we were getting ourselves into.We made a bloody nuisance of ourselves.

I tend to agree with you, Rolmops, although I admit that I get a bit nervous in threads (like the current Kid's nation thread) where some disagreement seems approriate somehow.

I will refrain posting further in that thread out of respect for the board's owners and their wishes...
It would be nice to get to some happy medium, but I suspect that is impossible.

Most of us were polite Rolmops. I know I slipped from time to time but I learned a bunch from debatin' both you and PW2 (and others).

I agree that the posters over there lack the respect for each other that exists here, (before the change and now). I got into their place to help RPJS, and found it hard to resist spankin' AdamT. It is too bad it is soooooo much work for the Mods. I also know I was part of the problem here and I'm sorry for what I did. Can't change that now what is done is done. JR

Rolmops, You are right.

The turn that iboats has taken is to the pretty world. Kind of oblivious to the real world. In the iboats world there is no racial tension, no poverty, no war or political discussions. I see it as a parallel universe to most of the Vermont people. In VT we have the least minority population in the USA so there are no racial incidents. We have permitted civil unions so there is no bashing due to "preferences"...... everything is quiet.

I have been on both sides of a real hostile society and I know you have too. I just count my blessings and wonder what life will be like when our grandchilden grow up. We are still responsible to teach them the values we have learned.

I can not say that I want to shelter and create a false picture..... but rather educuate and teach values.

Good point you made about "another forum"

Actually not everyone need's the controversy or learn's from it, I for one have learned a great deal. But the pendulum has swung and life goes on...

The most challenging deal about discussions or debates is the reality that swaying someones opinion or beliefs is pretty unlikely. Seems that's why poli, religious, moral, lifestyle threads go nowhere. And can become hostile.

I know what I posted is pretty obvious to most. I just wished to post it for post count. :p

I recall some very civil, yet deep discussions. Definitely not always, and I know I contributed to some fights fo sho. But I really enjoyed some good discussions with rolmops, CJY, treebuddy and PW2 that went full cirlce. On the other hand, I recall basically losing it with jimonica and txswinner . . . Hmmmmmm. Ya know I have to admit there is a place and time for a good Vanilla Malt though. Chocolate swirl mocha crunch just doesn't offer the simple perfection that a good Vanilla Malt does . . .

Re: dockside chats

if you go to the trailer forum, there is a debate there almost everyday. brand of tow vehicle, trailer tires, proper lighting. it has even gotten testy in there on occasions, but it is pleasant, you can debate, just keep it civil, and to the point. no name calling, bashing, etc. it's just not going to be politics, religion, as described in the rules.

Tashadaddy, I?m not putting this here too start an argument, just trying to find the line between what QC has called vanilla and chocolate. You say go to the trailer forum, they have a heated debate going almost everyday. I remember OC and myself, had a rather lengthy debate on whether the government should sell government land to corporations, which in my case I was against because I enjoy hiking. We had a rather long civil, and I believe we both put up some rather informative pros and cons on it. What forum would be appropriate for that kind of debate? Yes I have discussed this at bait shops on the dock at the lake.

I think the National Parks and Forests would be off limits. Teddy Roosevelt had a purpose for these.
The other real estate could be auctioned like other government surplus and sold to the highest bidder. Corporations would have to bid along with everyone else thus eliminating them from special favors by a politician on the take.

Re: dockside chats

Here’s what QC and I were discussing, 21000 thousand acres of this is In Missouri. Prime fishing and hiking land. Owned by the government/taxpayers now, plenty of public access , in private hands kiss that goodbye, just google this, if I put anymore it will be considered political.< <The National Forest Land Conveyance for Rural Communities Act>

Re: dockside chats

Land that's not economical any more for the government to manage. No problem. But, I have a problem with how they choose who can buy it. They can give their favorite corporation dibs and reject everyone else's offer. To be fair it should go to highest bidder.
The bill reads like a way to sell federal land to somebody already chosen to receive it.

As a part of that mess I agree.
However I don't know anything about the "new" DC and less about this software. Was not around when both took place.

Guess I will stick around and learn about both.

Me thinks tashasdaddy's time is best spent in the trailer or restoration forum. He was never much of a contributor in DC before the "promotion".
