If you have never tried to back up a single screw inboard you have no idea how difficult what they did is. And if you miss I am guessing those boats are somewhere in the 10 ton range. The rudder at idle in reverse is useless and the boat tries to back in a circle.

It ?s actually not as hard as you think. A Chesapeake deadrise is almost flat in the back. They don't wonder nearly as much as your typically V-hull boat. Pretty much point and shoot. A very stable and capable work platform.

I've seen these contests in Crisfield and Norfolk; they are way cool. Note they have special lines, like a cowboy lasso. There are different rules such as the number of lines, solo v. crew, etc.

And those deadrises make great party boats.

Wow! I could do that at a much slower speed with a 1953 Johnson Prowler I had with twin V8?s but a single engine! My Mastercraft inboard will hardly slow down with a good throttle in reverse much less be able to guide the boat. I guess the hull design makes a big difference. Or maybe they are just a heck of a lot better than I am

A piece of cake if you have a reversable variable pitch screw
and bow thrusters.

We watched a 110ft House Boat dock twice Saturday night-they left 2 folks who went to buy ice-it was a thing of beauty to see-really.

I think the shirt in the second video called it a "Waterman's Rodeo." That'd be pretty interesting to watch ... thanks for posting. Had never heard of it.

I know what its like to back a single screw. I've owned one for 12 years and its easy once you get the feel of where its going to go. But still aint no cake walk. My 34 Luhrs with twin inboards is a dream in the marina compared to my single.

I was at the Edisto Goveners cup and watched a guy do this with a much larger boat and was very impressed that is hard to do with me.
