Any recommendations for a mid-level, good quality restaurant that we can dock at? I'm familiar with the harbor in general but not intimately, so coordinates or a Google link or something would be helpful, if you have it.

I always go to Parker's Lighthouse. It is at the entrance to Shoreline Marina. Go to the Queen Mary and head Northeast. When you hit land, your there . . . There is a little courtesy dock just outside the marina, east of the restaurant. There is also a Mexican joint and a few kinda fast food type places too. The whole commercial deal is called Shoreline Village:

The other options are in San Pedro at Ports O' Call:

I couldn't find any courtesy slips last time I was there and it is in the middle of a renovation project and kinda run down.

I like to go deep inside the Harbor and watch them load and unload the Container Ships, I have a whole Harbor Cruise route on my GPS if you want it . . .

Thanks for the tips, unfortunately we never made it. On the way back from Two Harbors the steering gear stripped out. I had to bring it back up the channel (and trailer it) by steering just with the throttles. I figured trying to go into a crowded area that way wouldn't be too bright.

So, obviously you dragged your boat over here from AZ. Had you been over toTwo Harbors/Catalina before? What'd you think? Where'd you launch?

Yeah, I trailered out. I used to live in Hacienda Heights and launch from Davies all the time, so I just went there. I had been to Avalon but not Two Harbors, and I think I like it better there. Avalon is pretty but a little to much like a city. I like Two Harbors a lot and we'll definitely make it out for the pirate weekend again next year.

Next time I go I hope to find a better launch. With a 28' aft cabin, I need to get the trailer in deep and need some draft. Davies is shallow, especially at low tide like it was when we retrieved.

I like Dana Point, but I can't recall being there at low tide. It only takes about 5 minutes to get out of the Marina, so it is a lot quicker to actually get outside despite it being farther from home. I have also launched over by the Queen Mary a few times and at 2nd Street in Alamitos Bay. The ramp by the Mary is also only 5 minutes to get out of wakeless.

Yeah, Two Harbors is pretty cool, glad it was good, good luck with the steering . . .
