i rebuild a 7.5hp Evinrude 2stroke 1983 and before put the new head gaket on i wonder if i should use any sealant.A guy i had met and looked expert had told me to put a thin film of oil all around the gasket. When the oil gets burnt it leaves on the metal surfaces a protective layer.Another car mechanic advised me to use coper spray and a mercruiser mechanic who is in my opinion a profesor told to put nothing on the head gasket .What do you suggest?

My '83 and '95 service manuals both say to use OMC gasket sealer. That's what I've always used. A thin coat is specified.

most outboard head gaskets have a type of sealer impregnated into the gasket. using other types of sealer may have negative afects. some manufactures say to retorque head bolts after the motor warms up the first time. Ive been an auto tech for 20 years and never use anything on head gaskets and have never had a problem.

Is it the same sealer for all the other surfaces or it is special for the head gasket?
