Do you believe this???

My wife went to a lake last weekend with friends and saw the oddest thing. Did not believe her at first. Thought she had too many margaritas. A ski boat was motoring across the lake WITH its trailer still attached. Apparently, hauling it to the launching garage the boater had on the shoreline. Anyone else ever seen this happen?

Define motoring . . . How could she actually see the trailer? The winch?

Ya know, if you keep the jack wheel attached in front he could just drive it right up the ramp, right? At least until the prop came out of the water. Then it would slide back, jump forward, slide back. Just an endless do loop. I'm liking this deal more and more. :D

The boat was under the power of the motor. She first saw "a piece of metal sticking out the front". As it got close, she could tell it was the hitch and winch. Discussed this with my engineering friends and they said absolutely it could do this without sinking if the boat can displace more volume of water than the boat and trailer weigh.

Oh I beleive it is totally possible. Ask anybody who has left their transom tied down when launching . . .

You need to repost this on the Stupid Human Tricks section . . . too funny. This section doesn't get a whole lot of attention.

BTW, welcome to Iboats.

Wow. Never seen it, but I see no reason it wouldn't be possible. Trailers aren't that heavy, in comparison to the load capacity of most boats...it'd probably bring it up to the recommended limit but certainly wouldn't sink it. I give kudos to the guy for thinking outside the box in getting his trailer where it needed to go! A true problem solver.

MythBusters did a show on this. It is possible and is done for a variety of reasons.

Why hassle loading and unloading all the time? If you're just out for a put around the lake, this really simplifies things.

Had a friend that worked at a local dock, he told a story about this a few years back. Last weekend I saw a aluninum trailer with four 15" wheels floating when it was backed in the lake. Thought I had been in the sun to long.

Heard of this being done, Maybe it was on iboats about a year ago. Campers were doing this to bring the trailers around to the beach area, where they parked their boats.

Come to think of it, last time we pulled the boat, I went back in the water with the trailer a little too far... and the current was floating the trailer off to the left (port?)
Hmmmmm!
