IS THERE SUCH THING AS AN ALTINATER FOR A 60 HP 1987 MERCURY MOTOR TO CHARGE BATTERIES WHILE RUNNING ON THE WATER??? CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THERE IS ONE OR WHERE I CAN FIND ONE AT. SORRY IF THIS IS A DUMB QUESTION.<br /> THANKS<br /> RON

There are no dumb guestions (maybe dumb answers). I can not answer your guestion but I would suggest that you get a repair manual and it will tell you. You should have a repair manual for any motor that you have (just in case you need some quick help). I think (or ass-u-me) that it should be in the starter and should charge after starting - but do not quote me on that. ;)

Chances are if the motor is of the electric start variety then it will indeed have battery charging capabilities. The Alternator is built into the electrical components inside the flywheel assembly. So by looking you wouldn't see anything resembnling an alternator. Be warned that removing the battery cable while it is running can cause the alternator/regulator circuit to fail.
